Bo Pelini Foundation Football 101 Presented by: The Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center Set for Wednesday June 2, 2010
Thu, January 28, 2010

(LINCOLN, NEB.) – University of Nebraska Football Coach Bo Pelini announced June 2 as the date for the Bo Pelini Foundation 2010 Football 101, presented by the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center, the event’s Premier Sponsor.

The mission of the Bo Pelini Foundation, founded in 2008 by Bo and Mary Pat Pelini, is to support nonprofit organizations dedicated to the fight against cancer and juvenile and adult diabetes. The Foundation provides targeted financial assistance to programs which advance opportunities for disadvantaged children, particularly young people growing up in Nebraska. The mission of Football 101 is to provide funds to fight breast cancer. Last year, $25,000 each was given to the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Foundation and the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Led by Coach Pelini and the entire Husker football coaching staff, Football 101 promises to be a fun-filled day of learning and activity. While the schedule for 2010 has not been finalized, the event generally begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. and concludes before 5 p.m. The event will be held on campus at the Hawks Championship Center and the adjoining Memorial Stadium and nearby Champions Club. Significant adjustments to last year’s program were well received by repeat attendees and Coach Pelini promises that this year’s program will be even better.

“We are looking forward to hosting the best Football 101 class yet,” Pelini said. “We will change it up a little bit to keep it fresh and exciting, recognizing which sections are the ladies’ favorites.”

Participation from current players, running plays on the field, personal interaction with the Husker coaches and the Tunnel Walk are many of the favorite features of Football 101. The celebration of life and presentation of gifts to the breast cancer survivors has been a fitting way to end the clinic.

Registration is open to all participants 18 years or older. Last year approximately 1,000 women attended the event that is sure to again fill up fast. Registration costs $95 ($65 tax deductible) and can be completed online with no additional fees.

The registration also includes lunch and a Football 101 gift bag that will include a T-shirt, sponsored by Advanced Radiology. While most of the events will be held inside the Hawks Championship Center just north of Memorial Stadium, some events may be held outside, weather permitting, with some walking and standing required. Accommodations will be made for those in need of assistance.
